Many times anet builds something, thinks theya re going to impliment it than reconsiders.

Is open for amuse and doesn't have any large advantages over the current system. Whine all you want, but I'm glad they didn't impliment it.

An auction house would be nice, but it is unclear who it will win. What is clear is that it will require a unique server in game, which potentially increases band width.

It certainly wont help spam, they will just say check AH like they do in WoW, but at least most people I see in WoW actually do it in the trade channel. But seeing as how most things go in online games that will never happen.

Also that means extra server work, which in return will give us lag, just like most unique updates they give lag for a day when it starts.

At this point im not sure whether or not GW is actually flooded with that many items that it needs an auction house. ***But what the hell throw it in there anyway, im not paying for it!

I've said it before in another thread, now we have the store and options to buy add ons (only slots at the moment) I would imagine that we will be seeing things like guild storage and auction houses as paid for add ons, Anet are hardly going to give away the most requested upgrades for free when they have opened a shop so that they can sell us extras.

I would love to see some sort of A.H. Implemented in Nightfall. I actualy quit for about 3 months (Before factions) And went to World of Warcraft. The A.H. There was pretty good, you basicly put something up, and if it sold it would be mailed to you. If it didn't, you'd get your item and the deposit in the mail.
A system like that would be great, because I was a talking with a friend of mine yesterday, and he asked if I wanted to do a mission, I said yeah because it was one I haven't done. Long story short; I ended up selling for 25 minutes because I needed to get rid of this & That and get some cash. It would've been great to say, "Yeah, just give me 2 minutes to put this in the A.H. And I'll be right there."

Anet "Selling" an auction house won't work at all.

Say 10% buy the upgrade - now how do they sell to the 90% who don't have it.
Unless they make it so that you can always buy but not sell....which is getting more complicated.

What might make sense is if they bundle it with Nightfall - another incentive to buy it.

Overall many people are disappointed with Factions - probably because prophecies is SOOO good - so Nightfall needs to ensure that it's at least as good as factions and hopefully as good as prophecies.
Bundling a customisable hench party AND an auction house would boost pre-order sales of Nightfall.

What anet wants to do is boost pre-order sales, that's why they're giving away an extra char slot.
To me this is not a good sign, it's easy to give away a slot - I hope they're not using it as an incentive to buy a bad game.

Judging by forums - There are 3 major requests left from day 1.
Auction house (or improved trade.... whatever!), Group forming done better, Reconnects....

Looks like they're going to give group forming a little bit of work by having customizable hechies with nightfall - any update on the other 2 - no

Guildwars/Anet is like the record industry - a new band comes out has a hit new album and gets pressure to follow up. The band had years to do the first new album and 6 months for the second..... which will be best.... I fear for the quality of nightfall - ANET please prove me wrong!

I expect the Auction House/trade improvements to be CORE or else heads are gonna roll, and I'll be the one with the axe.

You hear me, Strain?

Can I come?
No Auction House/Crappy trade was a big part of what made me leave.

The main reason I want auction houses is because I can't be bothered chanting WTS or WTB for 20 minutes, I'd rather just go and play the game.

Second that!
WTS and WTB is not a trading system, it doesnt tell everyone what you have etc. instead it's localised to towns and even further to districts.
I just doesn't work effectively.

I think it has come down to this, we are not gonna be seening an auction house ever. why?

Because WE let Anet get away with it telling us we dont need it.

It can agreeded that Auction House will take alot of resources both in software and hardware to create and maintain. And since even the most "powerful Items" in the game have the same stats as collectors, it is clear that Anet dont really care about how items affects the economy since Jeff would come and tell you: "Thats totally not the point of the game".

As long as the Auction House remains as a PvE Heavy component of the game with little use for PvP component as a whole, it is unlikely we will see it at all unless the sales of Nightfall or whichever expansion saw a drastic lack of sales to make Anet panic, otherwise the idea of an Auction House to be implemented in the "Next" expansion will always exist to lure players to buy it. But the main marketing tool will always be to attract buyers with their "new environments", "new mobs", "new skills', "new classes", "new armour and weapon skins" and "new story", hopefully enough new components to distract us from this topic. Can we blame them? We let it be done onto ourselves.

Until then some of us here will have you believe that a trade channel is more than enough....what a joke that is.

If you are angry about this, dont blame Anet. Blame yourselves that you bought a online game that focus on balancing PvP over its PvE sideline and the same can be said of very "nerf" that has come to pass that just makes the PvE less and less fun to play.

Btw those who would post: "uninstall GG" please dont do this to increase your post count.

they never promised an auction house in the first place so get over that part.

they said *trade improvement which may / may not be an auction house*

they never gave a due date knowing the mentality of the whiners that if it is 5 minutes late you broke your promise.

they said there were several ideas being worked on and one of them would be streamed in

*when it is ready* and not before

It's sad for such a recent game to have such a primitive trade system.Jesus.Games like Ragnarok Online have a superior trading system to this game.

*when it is ready* isn't good enough for those people who are pissed off today and for the last year because this is all they're told.

And people like you try to make them feel stupid because they're asking a valid question.

The reason that this question is continually asked (and rightly so) is because there is absolutely no update on progress for a year and a half.

Any program manager can narrow down a delivery of implementation to within 6 months.
Since episodes are 6months they should be able to say with which chapter this improvement will come.

Obviously they're beginning to realise that with increasing towns/outposts there is less population to play in them so they're implementing customizable hench parties - Yes - that's really good.
Now when will we get improved trade - with which chapter.

I fear that Thallandor is 100% right and they're baiting us... stringing people along in the hopes that trading will happen with this chapter.

If they ever want to capture the kind of numbers that WOW has - improved trading is a must.

the bolded part is where you are wrong.

there have been updates but since those updates were we are working on several different ideas and have no due date you reject the update by saying they gave us nothing new and that is unacceptable to us.

as for your experts and a definite 6 month window just look at windows vista that i am playing on a year ago............oops it got bumped again.........and again.............but for sure it will be out soon.

thats microsoft with much greater resources missing the mark

6 month guaranteed window prediction .......ha ha

.... and I'm working on a time machine, infinite power from the air and taking over the world.
Just because someone said they're working on it doesn't mean that it will ever happen.

It means nothing without progress.

There have been no updates - every time someone mentions this topic, all is said is that "they're working on it" in various forms.

There are a lot of frustrated people out there with the current (what passes for) trading system, don't anet care about them?
Would they rather force people away through frustration rather than give any sort of update on where they are?

Don't compare a full OS to a feature in the game - they're on different timescales and magnitudes.
If that was true then each and every patch would take 1 year to get out for a game and that is certainly not the case.

As previously stated if Anet were to make an auction house it would have to be available to all chapters. I'd suggest making an Island port in the same fashion as The Battle Isles. You could access this port as soon as your character made it to lions arch. From there you could select what Auction House(Town) you wanted to go to. They could have it broken up into catagories: Greens,Golds Materials or by professions or whatever. The hardest part would probably be deciding how to break them into catagories so that they are equally as crowded.

To everyone who is desperate for an Auction House of some sort, or otherwise mad at Anet for not implementing the features we ask for...

Please, please be patient. Believe it or not, Anet tries to do what we ask and request. But, there are only so many people working. Before making a new update, the following questions have to be asked and answered:

1. How badly do we need/want this update?
2. How will this update affect the game? Will any imbalances be created?
3. Is there anything else we must change to ensure consistency and stability?
4. How difficult will this update be to implement?
5. How many people do we have available to work on this update?
6. If we assigned X people to this update, about how long would it take for them to finish?
7. Could those X people be working on something we feel is more beneficial for the game?
8. Would this update interfere with our long-term projects? (new chapters, etc.)
9. What should we tell the community to get them to understand that the update is on its way? Should we even tell them if we don't have a definitive date? What will be the consequences?

As you can see, these are tough questions to answer. Numbers 6, 7, 8, and 9 I believe are the toughest. Assigning too many people would result in other projects being delayed, whereas assigning too few means this project is delayed. Also, do they even need to work on this now, or should they work on something that will be better for the game? And most importantly: How do they inform the community of the update with a minimal amount of flames? If they say the update is on its way but give a far-off date, people will be outraged that it won't be here for so long. But give a date too soon and people will be outraged if it isn't released on time. Should they even tell the community if they don't have a definitive date? What misinterpretations would occur causing more anger towards Anet?

If the update passes this test, work will begin with certain people being assigned to it. However, the majority may be working on the next chapter or other updates for the current chapter so the work may be slow. Who knows, maybe they've been having two guys work on an AH system for months but because there's only two available it takes so long? (DISCLAIMER: I am not saying that people have been working on it. That's a hypothetical question, plain and simple). Programming is more work that many people think, especially for games as intensive as Guild Wars.

What I'm getting at is that Anet does listen to us. However, they don't always have the manpower to get us everything we want when we want it. They have to choose which of the updates they think we would like most, and which would be most beneficial to the game. Right now, the majority of one of the development teams is finishing up Nightfall while the other is dealing with some issues that remain in Factions as well as (possibly) starting work on Chapter IV. There probably aren't very many people available who can work on such a large project as a completely revamped trading system. I personally believe that the new trading system will come, it will do its job, and will be generally loved by the community. However, I have no idea when it'll come. It could be tomorrow, it could be released with Nightfall, heck it could be released in Chapter 4,072. So just be patient with Anet, their job is hard enough without people loathing them and holding them in contempt.
